The I BALANCE, THEREFORE I AM sign is the turning point on the evolutionary spiral.  Living through the first six zodiac sign energies has given the individual Soul a sense of “selfness.”  In LIBRA, the soul embarks on the development of the soul as he learns to cooperate within relationships.  LIBRA, as the sign of marriage, must move away from functioning in the “me” consciousness and enter the “we” consciousness.  LIBRA possesses an excellent, executive type mind.  LIBRA likes to travel and explore new horizons.  Though LIBRA can be “sweet” and diplomatic on the surface, there is a fist of iron underneath the velvet glove.  Still, LIBRA is the diplomat par excellence.  He is friendly, extroverted, fair-minded, and interested in living life to the fullest.  There is a strong sense of justice and the will to do good.

The Razor Edged Path

Libra is the point of balance in the zodiac, the place where neither spirit nor matter dominates. For the disciple on the Way, it is the point of perfect equilibrium. The path the disciple treads in Libra is known as the Razor Edged Path. In this sign can be demonstrated the art of spiritual compromise ~ willingness to yield on all non-essentials, all the while persuading and inspiring. Here we begin to understand the need for single steps along the path; serving wisely, offering just the correct amount of assistance. This develops a dynamic equilibrium in the life.

Libra forces everything into equilibrium. All the experience humanity has collected is laid in the scales of the balance and weighed. What’s valuable is kept; what’s worthless is thrown away. The effect of this balance is harmony, developing our powers of discrimination, and bringing into equilibrium the two-sided forces of duality. The Libran angel radiates the law of balance and justice into the three-dimensional world. Through Her wisdom is known the manifestation of law-giving knowledge.

Libra is the sign of justice. Libra governs law, sex and money, representing life in the lower three worlds, the playing field of the personality. These three areas represent humanity’s greatest battlefields. The first aspect of will or power expresses itself in this sign as law ~ as legislation, legality, and justice. The second aspect manifests as the relation between the pairs of opposites ~ sex, on the physical plane, of which the scales are the symbol. The physical plane shows itself as money; this is the third aspect and demonstrates as concretized energy. It is literally gold, this the externalized symbol of that which is created by the bringing together of spirit and matter upon the physical plane.

THE ARCHETYPE OF LIBRA

Therefore, the Archetype of Libra resonates to relationships; group participation; balancing self with others; bringing about equilibrium and order; and seeking something transcendent to self. One way to look at the Archetype of Libra is as the “quest for the ideal group or pattern of society.”

Libra represents the first step into a group (greater) orientation. Fittingly, many attributes of Libra and Librans include focusing on and balancing individual versus group issues. Libra conditions us to intense involvement with the outer world; moving others to the center of attention; and searching for ideal forms of cooperation, group participation and social relatedness. The intense focus outside oneself naturally brings the need for us to represent “I balance.”

It’s fairly easy to conclude that spiritualizing the personality through Libra is going to involve the key words of balancing and discriminating. By bringing a balanced focus to relationships, we not only become more realistic than idealistic, but reduce extreme behaviors to a calm, serene equanimity in life. Through Libra, we birth a “new life” in a “Greater Whole.” This new life is characterized by a balance between the soul and personality; an equilibrium between material personal desire and intelligent spiritual love; and obviously a balanced sense of social values.

In this new life, we find the Self through processes of choice; we find universal ethics which transcend merely human choice; and learn to love from the soul instead of the personality. This road to objective compassionate relatedness comes through transmuting selfish desire into spiritual aspiration while transforming judgment into discriminating justice. In essence, we “consecrate” ourselves to humanity.
